| “The Geo-Chronicle of M & M” is a small non-descript camo'd piece of Tupperware, one of Mate's leftover caches that did not catch fire (or so the story goes), so the Orange County Geocachers Association put it to good use. Cache contains a micro pen and log and tiny trade items, including a Legoland bound Travel Bug. There is a Dollar Coin for the FTF & STF. |
Sometimes when we read the geo-chronicles, we wonder why the Grand High Pobah cared about some of the things that He cared about and even bothered to pass along the story? The story of brother's M & M is one of those stories that geocachers best heed. It began in the early days of geocaching, about the same time when the Clinton Admin allowed the commercial exploitation of GPS.
So it was a very long time ago, just after Mister Alamo and Miss CC Cooper had to leave the garden of Eden, they were very sad about disobeying the Admin. They asked the Grand High Pobah how they could show how sorry they were?
The Grand High Pobah told them that they could show how they felt by sacrificing a cache, which they did.
After awhile, Alamo and CC Cooper had two sons. Their first son was called Mate and their second was called Mick.
Mate was an excellent cache hider and Mick was an adept cache seeker. Mate created all types of wonderful caches on his farm, ammo cans, decon containers, Taped Tupperware, and evil leaf bearing micros. Mick was a seeker who liked to help his brother by pointing out great places to hide his wares. Mate and Mick were like most siblings -- they didn't always get along. But they were brothers and loved each other very much, despite their occasional fights.
Alamo and CC Cooper (their dad and mom) told Mate and Mick about the message the Admin gave them that they should sacrifice a cache to show how much they appreciated all that the Grand High Pobah had done for them and how sorry they were for their geo-sins(planting evil micros, posting bad coordinates, and deleting their logs, etc).
Mick was very concerned that his caching sacrifice be special to the Grand High Pobah. He chose his first and best micro and offered it up to the WestCoastAdmin. It was hard for Mick to give up his most prized possession, but it was important to him to try his best as the Grand High Pobah had asked.
Mate thought his brother was a bit silly for giving up his best cache. "Good grief," he thought. "We need that cache so VK can make 8,000; the WestCoastAdmin doesn't need it! I'm sure the Admin would be just as happy if we sacrificed another cache. In fact, why does it need to be a cache at all? I'm a geocacher and 2005 has been a great year for my 234 hidden caches -- I can't use everything I've created. Why don't I just burn some of the extra small and micro caches I have? That way, I won't be wasting any."
Mate's reasoning sounds pretty good when you first hear it, doesn't it?
Mate watched as Mick's cache burnt up completely on the altar, while his left over small and micro caches just smoldered a bit and never really caught fire at all. That could mean only one thing!
The Grand High Pobah and the Admins preferred Mick!
Mate was jealous! He didn't take the time or the responsibility to realize it was his decision to sacrifice micro caches that caused the difference in the Admin's response to their caching sacrifices. Instead, he just got angry at his brother Mick.
Mate asked Mick to go for a walk with him and hide a cache, and while he was still angry, Mate struck Mick to the ground and inadvertently killed him. The cache location is not too far from the field where this all took place. When Mate realized what he'd done, he was more concerned that someone might have seen what he'd done than he was sorry for his brother's death. He looked around and sighed a breath of relief that no muggles were nearby.
And then the Admin spoke, "Mate, where is your brother."
Mate shrugged, "I dunno! Am I my brother's keeper?"
The Admin replied, "Mate, how could you be so cruel to your only brother. He has done nothing, but try his best for the Admins, Hemlock, the Grand High Pobah, the geo-community and the greater OC ... and for You!"
Mate fell to the ground sobbing. Finally, he felt the horror of what he'd done. And he had to live with that feeling and the knowledge that he was responsible for the death of his only brother for the rest of his life.

Wow! This is a 10lbs cache in a 5lbs bag. It's loaded with swags...my son would have enjoyed looking through it...but I was solo this afternoon. TNLN. SL. Thanks for the fun.

Located it thanks to the misses leding me by the hand to it...I stumbled around there for about ten minutes before she hobbled over and pointed it out immediately. Did I ever feel like the fool! TFTC, and the humility lesson!

Tromped around in the bushes a bit but we were lucky to find the cache and not come out with burrs or stickers attached to us. SL Thx 4 the hide!!

Started out trying to go through the thicket but figured there must be a better way. Finally got to the coordinates but couldn't find it. Have to come back another day.

Parked in the apartment complex nearby. (Somebody push the Staples "That was easy!" button.) Walked about 500 feet, then found the cache after a minute or two. Cool spot, thanks for putting a cache here. T-YJTB, L-UNTB. TFTC!

I don't know why, but I decided I could bushwhack my way over to this one. Geopuppy and I hit a dead end and came back covered with burrs and stickers.
Steve had calmly waited while I bashed around and then we headed in the right direction and made quick work of the cache. TNLNSL...TFTH!!

We didn't see the weasel, but we had a nice walk anyway, and we did find the cache. The coordinates were right on! T Arizona turquoise, L frog. SL. TFTC
