| To the best of my knowledge, this is the only place in Orange
County, if not all of Southern California, where the public can see
an Academy AwardŽ up close and personal, for free, 24/7/365.
So what better place for a Virtual Cache.
To answer the most asked question, the awards were donated to
the school in November of 2002 at the gala opening of the newly
remodeled and renamed theatre. They were placed on display a few
weeks later. |
This cache has a bonus, however. There is a second award on display
at the same location.
To claim this find you can:
A) email me and tell me the name of the movie the OscarŽ was
awarded for,
-or-
B) email me and tell me what the other award is, and what is
written on the third line of the inscription,
-or-
C) send a picture with you, either award, and your GPSr.
New as of October 2005: The plaza that this cache faces is the
first west coast commision of artist Maya Lin who is best known for
designing the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC. Financed totally
by private donations, this plaza features a water table,
"whispering benches", display screens, LED lighting inviting all to
the plaza from the three major entrances, and a new amphitheatre. I
may add a micro cache at the far end of the plaza to encourage
people to look at the offerings of the plaza itself.
Sorry bout the night time lighting of the statuettes. I've tried to
get it changed, but to no avail. :(

Went by here tonight but it was very difficult to take a picture! They should really have lights on it, at least maybe little dim ones? We still took some pictures, Pepperthief will probably upload them if not I'll do it in the morning ^_^ Thanks so much for the cache! Went by here for some UCI Caches with Pepperthief and Kimidog. =)

I emailed the answers. I'm so glad that you're itroducing people to the Arts Plaza, it is a very nice place. I love to sit by the fountain in the evening. The Colombian Princess enjoyed the find as well.

In the area with Musicmaker who was auditioning at UCI this morning. Found this one quite easily, but will have to come back again to get the others in the area. Musicmaker tolerates this obsession of mine just so far. Of course, if she gets accepted here, I'll probably be down in this area quite a bit.
Thanks for the interesting history lesson.

This was interesting. We have lived here for at least 10 years and have never seen this spot. Thank you for all the great info today. It was a wonderful visit to the campus.

The campus was fairly quiet since the students were on Christmas break. A beautiful sunny day for a walk. Thanks for the history lesson.

Interesting to see one in real life. Easier to get to when everyone's on break. TFTC

When we got to the Oscar, we realized we didn't have our flashlight and couldn't read it! [:0] But, using the light from our GPS, we could just barely make out the title. First Oscar I've ever seen! Also enjoyed looking at the costume display nearby. E-mail to follow shortly. Thanks for a fun one!
