The first bridges were spans made of wooden logs or planks and eventually stones, using a simple support and crossbeam arrangement. The arch was first used by the Roman Empire for bridges and aqueducts, some of which still stand today. The Romans also used cement, which reduced the variation of strength found in natural stone. Brick and mortar bridges were built after the Roman era, as the technology for cement was lost then later rediscovered. Rope bridges, a simple type of suspension bridge, were used by the Inca civilization in the Andes mountains of South America, just prior to European colonization in the 1500s. During the 18th century there were many innovations in the design of timber bridges by Hans Ulrich, Johannes Grubenmann, and others. The first engineering book on building bridges was written by Hubert Gautier in 1716. With the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century, truss systems of wrought iron were developed for larger bridges, but iron did not have the tensile strength to support large loads. With the advent of steel, which has a high tensile strength, much larger bridges were built, many using the ideas of Gustave Eiffel.

Come find this cache but Don't Stop on the Bridge.Bikers come flying down and don't slow down but they do yell at you even if you are not on the Bridge.

We didn't find this one and notice it has been a long time since anyone has. We sure felt we looked well, but maybe not.

So it is a steel bridge and thought that it would be simple. I got to come back and look elsewhere.

15:35. My brother has a barbecue starting at 4:30pm; so we decided to walk down here to look for this cache while we had some spare time. Special K went in and made the dangerous grab for us! She took the carabiner, and I left a squishy Smiley ball.

Hey, I found a cache in the first spot I looked. That happens about 1 in every, oh.. 678 times. (j/k) Very cool location for a cache, neat waterfall, great views. Container and contents are in great shape, high and dry. Wish I could say that for every cache. Did I mention I hiked here? Where's a Segway "personal transporter" when you need one?! TFTC!

Continuing on the Quail Trail series. Found this one after a short look. Lost in a rock, paper, scissors game to decide who should go after it. Who knew that gernade beats everything?

Fun ride! Drove down here to knock out QT2-5 in about twenty minutes! Wink Parked near another evil cache but we already found that one, before assaulting this hill. Last of the caches found along this portion of the route. TFTC!
