This webcam cache is located at one end of the Fun Zone in Balboa. You'll have a nice view of the harbor and the Balboa Island ferry. Parking... well good luck! There is metered parking along the street - if you can find it - and metered parking along Balboa Blvd - if you can find it. As one would expect, this area will be much busier during the summer months.

This is not at the posted coordinates! The coordinates listed are about 2 blocks away. Creative thinking and looking at the position of the webcam image below will lead you to the correct place.

While you're here, be sure to check out the Balboa Fun Zone I - relocated webcam cache and my other webcam caches in the area.

Click here to go directly to the webcam page.
A new image is uploaded about every 30 seconds.
(clicking anywhere on the webcam page will refresh the image)

This webcam can be found on the talesofbalboa.com web site.

What you will need:

  • A GPS receiver (duh)
  • A friend at his/her computer with an internet connection.
  • A mobile phone or set time when you will be at the cache site.

How to find and claim this webcam virtual cache:

  • Go to the coordinates of this cache.
  • The coordinates get you to the area of the cache. They are not exact coordinates telling you where to stand. You, with the help of your friend, need to "hunt" for the cache.
  • Call a friend and have your friend go to this cache page or the webcam page.
  • Let them guide you on where to stand for the best picture then...
  • Wave to the camera and wait for an update! (this webcam updates approximately every 30 seconds).
  • When your friend sees a good webcam picture, have them right click on the webcam picture and select "Save Picture As...". Then have them send you the picture so that...
  • When you make your Webcam Photo Taken log entry you can upload image with the log.
  • Webcam Photo Taken logs without proper pictures will be deleted (no night shots - you must be visible in the picture). Alternate forms of photos will not be accepted. Please don't log it until you have your picture ready for upload.

Went to the Balboa area this morning to find a few caches. Since "G" was at work, it was the perfect opportunity to log a webcam cache. We enjoyed some beautiful weather and views. Thanks.

I got this one but get the error (copied below) every time I try to upload the image. I've cut the image down to 281x274, 38.9K jpg format, and still have 8 gig on my disk, so it seems like it should work, but no go. I would like to claim the cache, so any hints on how to get the picture uploaded would be appreciated.

Oh well. I was busy taking my photo by the Balboa Fun Zone I that by the time I got hold of a friend, it was already too dark to take the picture. What was strange was that it wasn't that dark at all - I guess the camera just wasn't lit enough.

The coordinates are off by several blocks (towards the pier), but we recognized the picture, and captured our webcam image on my blackberry in real time!
