| A cache in the trails of Turtle Rock in Irvine. We were surprised that this great set of trails was not yet home to a cache. We hope that this one will inspire many more! |
Inspired by a cache container found in "Mama Cache as Cache Can", my geofamily and I decided that the trails of Turtle Rock deserved a cache. It is a peanut butter bottle sized cache, neatly camouflaged by the kids while I was at work today.
While there are miles of trails spiderwebbing the area, and this cache is accessible from many directions, the easiest place to start is a school parking lot located at N 33 37.997 W 117 48.767. Once you park, look straight ahead - to the top you will go!
There are 122 steps from the parking lot (counted proudly by my kids!), and then a fairly steep and rocky hike to the top. While it is somewhat challenging, our 4, 5, and 7 year olds were with us to place the cache, so it is definitely manageable with kids. Wear sturdy shoes.
My 7 year old, being the experienced (25 or so finds) cacher that she is, spotted the mighty nifty hiding spot that the cache currently resides in.
Enjoy!

Woohoo! Nice hike up to a great view spot. Sat on a rock and took my time because it was just a neat area. Traded TBs. This cache has been around a while, but they are all new to me! Thanks for the hide, MSchwerdtfeger.

There were no travel bugs in this cache so maybe they have been picked up. Great view. TFTC.

Went during the day 2-13-08 in the early afternoon. I never got out of my car, after seeing all the warning signs around the school no trespassing during school hours or you can face arrest. Also there is a day care behind the school in addition.
I am a single male, just myself, so I really would stand out walking around the school... I guess that's one good thing about geocaching with kids etc, it make you look less suspicious to the muggles..With all the school violence things lately going on across the country, I'd didn't want to push my luck and have to explain Geocaching to the Irvine PD
So I'll have to try this one on a weekend again some other time when things are quiet around this cache...Def be stealth on the cache!...Thanks!

Out and about in the Turtle Rock area working some caches with my significant other. I parked on Turtle Rock Dr. at Chaparral Park and turned on my GPSr while my SO read the cache description. She promptly said she would wait for me in the shade of one of the big trees in the park. Are you sure it was only 122 steps from the parking lot? It seemed like 3 times that number. Any way, finally found the cache, signed the log, and left a Road Runner toy. Great photo ops from up there.

Nice hike up. Wanted to grab some TBs but was saddened that they were not there. Probably grabbed by some unsuspecting muggles at one time. Alas! TFTC!

Great hide. Found and retrieved easily. Thanks for another fun one in a scenic location. Don't recall seeing the diabetes TB in the cache but it could still be there.
Left two TBs and $8

IT'S ALL GOOD!

I found it, unfortunately some muggles found it first and dump everything out. I picked up all of the stuff I could find. Inventory: log, crysallographer's card, 4 marbles, smiley sun, 2 letter E's, the letter K and N, a plastic dradel, green smiley face, and I added a golf ball I found while looking for another cahce. No signs of the Siroi Diabetes TB. I tried to hide the cahce better so this won't happen again hopefully. TFTC SL
