| To the best of my knowledge, this is the only place in Orange
County, if not all of Southern California, where the public can see
an Academy AwardŽ up close and personal, for free, 24/7/365.
So what better place for a Virtual Cache.
To answer the most asked question, the awards were donated to
the school in November of 2002 at the gala opening of the newly
remodeled and renamed theatre. They were placed on display a few
weeks later. |
This cache has a bonus, however. There is a second award on display
at the same location.
To claim this find you can:
A) email me and tell me the name of the movie the OscarŽ was
awarded for,
-or-
B) email me and tell me what the other award is, and what is
written on the third line of the inscription,
-or-
C) send a picture with you, either award, and your GPSr.
New as of October 2005: The plaza that this cache faces is the
first west coast commision of artist Maya Lin who is best known for
designing the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC. Financed totally
by private donations, this plaza features a water table,
"whispering benches", display screens, LED lighting inviting all to
the plaza from the three major entrances, and a new amphitheatre. I
may add a micro cache at the far end of the plaza to encourage
people to look at the offerings of the plaza itself.
Sorry bout the night time lighting of the statuettes. I've tried to
get it changed, but to no avail. :(

Found this today while I was on campus. The Oscar looks a lot heavier than I thought it would look.

Since we had never seen an Oscar close up, this was a very interesting site to visit. Fortunately, there was nothing going on at the Bren Center, so we parked over there and walked to plaza.
TFTC, it was well worth the drive and walk

We had actually discovered this little treasure last December when we attended the UCI Madrigal dinner ( a fun event). Interesting cache. Thanks much!

Cool little virtual. Was on campus or a meeting and thought I'd wander on over. The display on Medium looks really wonderful! I really need to get out to the theater more often. TFTC :)

Found this one with Bajatym but forgot to log it! Email will be sent! Thanks for the fun challenge and it seems as if some play was going on that night as we saw some kids hanging around and some papers taped to the ground! Nice history learned! :)

Find number 10 of 14 on day 2 of our spring break caching marathon. Found by geodad... giving the boys a commanding lead. Yesterday it was parents vs. kids. Today it is boys vs. girls. Losers do the dishes. Geomom and geogirl will be doing the dishes as soon as I finish logging these caches. Email is on the way. TFTC!
