Welcome to the Sterling TB Museum!

The Sterling Travel Bug Museum is a safe-house for TB’s and a drop-off point for artifacts on a “touring exhibition” to catch a plane at John Wayne Airport. Some might call the museum a private collection, but rest assured, admission is free and open to the public. The “docents” will be happy to help you locate the “signature piece” of the museum. If you have time, be sure to take some time to enjoy the self-guided tour and check out the “gift shop”.

Museum Hours are:
Mon-Fri from 8am-7pm
Sat-Sun from 9am-5:30pm

Transfer of Artifacts: Just like a traditional museum, Travel Bugs and Geocoins should be “formally accessioned by being registered in the museum's collection with an artifact number and details recorded about their provenance.” In other words, please be sure to discover or log your TB’s in and out. This is not a TB Jail/Hotel with occupancy rules, but please use good judgment on how many items you take.

Just finished a great day of caching (17 for 19) over the weekend with Team Rubicon (Sub Steve, Miranda Panda & AlliCat).

Happened upon the "Rumble Bee" TB who is in a big hurry to get back East.

Just happened to have him with me so I could log him in when I thought there might be a great bug hotel near the airport. A quick search later and even without my GPSr I knew where to go and was on my way!

No problem making the grab except for the customer asking if I worked there...:)

Swapped out Rumble Bee for the Spidey TB, Signed the log, grabbed a pic and I was on my way!

Excellent location TFTC!!!

P.S. - Mickey was displayed but Spotty was not to be found...:( Perhaps the curators took him off display for cleaning...

I was down in the area to clean up some of the caches that the rest of the Orange Lunchtime Cachers Association (OCLA) had already found. I hadn’t planned on this cache to day but a couple of wrong turns and there it was on my GPSr just too close to pass up. Once I read the cache description I had a pretty good idea of what to do. I didn’t require any assistance but I was glad that I read the clue. I had already dropped off the TB I’ve been carrying around for the last couple weeks so I just signed the log and left a lizard. I’ve seen a bunch of TB hotels come and go in the airport area and this is by far the best. Very nicely done! Now that I know it is here I’ll have to use it to move some of the travelers I encounter that need to log some air miles. Thanks for the fun.

This is a really cool place, looked around for a little while then signed the log. The muggle at the store who helped asked what it was for and we explained it, he thought it was pretty cool. Thanks for a good Mother's Day cache!

Bug exchange: took a UN ring, left Last Bug Standing (LBS). Left the remaining bug in the can.

Hmm, we may need to put a lock on it, but we don't think its the locking type of ammo can. I'll contact previous finders and the bug owners, and update the listing with the lock combo if we add one. Thanks everyone for the heads up.

Easy to spot and no need for assistance to retrieve. I like the camo job! Bugs had been cleaned out, but catalogued a new one for the museum's collection: Fireman Mickey. Fireman Mickey is looking to go to Disney World in Florida. I'm hoping that this cache's proximity to John Wayne Airport will facilitate his mission. Took nothing. Mahalo for da cache!

With just over 2 hours until American Idol's results show we decided to run out for a few caches in Irvine area! Not too bad of a run either: 8 finds and its a half an hour drive each way. This was our 2nd time at this one, the last time we came late on a Sunday only to find out you must come during business hours! Trippy store, never saw so much artsy crafty stuff. Spotted our prize and went to see who would be inside. Well its sad to say that this TB Hotel was EMPTY! So I signed the log and it was off to the next TNLNSL tftc
